Nowadays, more and more Chinese students are affected by the mental stress from their classmates, teachers and parents. According to a survey done online, almost 30 percent of Chinese students have depression. The major reason for this is because of the stress in studies. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the pressure on Chinese students.

The pressure in studying is far greater than imagined. For example, Chinese students have about three hours of homework every day, some students even have to copy other’s homework to finish their task. After finishing their homework, most students tend to do some extra work to improve themselves or to catch up. On weekends they take many classes that last for 2 to 3 hours and have to give up their free time and sleep. Most students in 8th grade go to bed after 11pm and gets up at around 6am to go to school. If it goes on like this, the students will have some certain mental illnesses that will affect their future.

Parents also play an important part in students’ mental health. In China, most parents tend to believe that they are always right. When a child gets a bad score, a parent will usually shout at him or her and make him or her feel that it is their problem that they failed. They always tell their child that they are very stressful since they have to go to work and take care of the child. They also tell the child how disappointed they are at his/her failure. They never think of their own problems and tend to blame the bad performance on things like mobile phones, the internet, WeChat, computer games, comic books, idols and many other things they dislike. The parents never care about the children’s feelings. They always tell the child: “Look at your classmates, they can all get 90 in the test, why did you only get 80? ” and “You shouldn’t have any secrets, we must know everything in your life, it is for your own good. ” When a child complains about something, the parent always blames the child for complaining. In the mind of a Chinese parent, a good score means everything. They think their child is too weak to take any “advice” from them and that mental illness is an excuse for not working hard enough. Parents should be the ones that encourages a child and help him/her gain confidence in study and life, not the ones that “helps” the child to be depressed.

In China, being admitted into a school that is famous for its teachers and lessons is very important. To achieve this goal, schools always pushes a child to prepare for the graduation exam and the admission examinations one or two years before the actual exams take place. Some schools even tell the students that if they failed to enter a good high school then their life will be ruined. Under the pressure from the teachers and the classmates, students are eventually more stressful and easier to develop mental illnesses.

In a word, I believe that reducing pressure from a student can benefit him/her for a whole life, a mental illness caused by studying can eventually ruin a child. Therefore reducing the students’ pressure should be considered by the government and needs to be done as soon as possible.
